WIFT NZ ROBIN LAING SCHOLARSHIP
The WIFT NZ Robin Laing Scholarship, originally established by WIFT Wellington, is an annual partnership initiative between WIFT NZ and The Film School, Wellington.

Named for WIFT Wellington founder and leading NZ film producer Robin Laing, the scholarship was set up to provide financial assistance to female students at The Film School who demonstrate the potential to be significant contributors to the screen production industry.

The scholarship is granted annually to one (or more) female students following an application and interview process.  Recipients receive up to $2000 to assist with study expenses and one year's complimentary Friend membership of WIFT NZ.

An application call is issued early each year. Further information is available from The Film School, or by contacting us.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be:

  • a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident;
  • a female student enrolled for study at The New Zealand Film School, Wellington; and
  • able to demonstrate the potential to take a significant place in the screen production industry.

Applications:

Applicants should submit 4 copies of:

  • a complete curriculum vitae;
  • 3 letters of recommendation/character references; and
  • a personal statement of 1-5 pages that includes an expression of long-term goals.

Applicants may also submit a show reel or other visual arts material in support of their applications.

Applications for 2013 close on 15 March.

Decision:

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview before final, non-contestable decisions are made.

Decision announced: April each year

Award:

The scholarship recipient receives a direct payment of up to $2,000 plus one year's complimentary Friend membership of WIFT NZ.

The winner must agree to:

  • help publicise the award, including by delivering a presentation and showing her work on behalf of WIFT if requested; and
  • remain a financial member of Women in Film and Television for at least two years after her complimentary membership ends.

GAYLENE PRESTON WIFT NZ FEMALE DIRECTOR PRIZE - 48HRS FILM FESTIVAL
Originally established by Gaylene Preston, this prize is given to the best female director participating in the 48HRS Film Festival across the country.  The winner receives a cheque for $500.
