Kia hiwa ra! Grab an overnight bag and some of your most beloved friends for a filmic weekend on one of Auckland's favourite harbour islands. From 6-8 July Waiheke Island Community Cinema will play host to the Waiheke Matariki Women's Film Festival, a feast of film to warm the heart, mind and soul.

Women in Film and Television in association with Nga Aho Whakaari, Auckland City Council and the Tamaki Makaurau Matariki Festival Trust Board join forces with Waiheke locals in this insightful and eclectic presentation of films made by women filmmakers.

Friday 6 July at the opening mihi is esteemed Maori Kuia, Vapi Kupenga, representing the work of pioneering NZ filmmaker, Ramai Hayward, and will be presenting Eel history is a mystery.. Wanjiku Sanderson will present the film Keskidee Aroha and the work of veteran filmmaker, the late Merata Mita, will be honoured.  Huia Kapua and her team from the Wellington NZ Film Archive have curated this programme especially for the evening.

Joining us for the weekend will be US HerFilm blogger, Kyna Morgan, who has literally just landed in the country
